In celebration of Earth Month, join us for a discussion with Professor Asmeret Asefaw Berhe.
Bio: Professor Asmeret Asefaw Berhe is a Professor of Soil Biogeochemistry, and Falasco Chair in Earth Sciences at the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Merced. She is also the Interim Dean of the Graduate Division at UC Merced, a past Chair of the US National Committee on Soil Science at the National Academies and Associate Editor of AGU’s Journal of Geophysical Research – Biogeosciences and Elementa. She received her Ph.D. in Biogeochemistry from the University of California (UC), Berkeley, a M. Sc. in Resource Development (Political Ecology) from Michigan State University, and a B. Sc. in Soil and Water Conservation from University of Asmara, Eritrea. She completed her postdoc at UC Berkeley and UC Davis as a University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellow. Her research focus is on biogeochemical cycling of essential elements (esp. carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus) in the soil system.
