Community Calendar Guidelines
The City of Merced Community Events Calendar is a feature of the City of Merced’s allowing the City and members of the community to publicize meetings and community events in a central location viewed by the general public.
All events must be open to the public and be held in the Greater Merced area. (The Greater Merced Area is the area in and around Merced that generally has a Merced mailing address or Zip Code.) All events submitted to the Community Events Calendar are subject to public disclosure under applicable local, state and/or Federal laws.
The City of Merced reserves the right to restrict or remove any content that is deemed a violation of these event calendar guidelines or any applicable law. The City Manager (or designee) shall make the final determination as to whether to restrict or remove any content on the Calendar.
All calendar events must be posted by someone who is 18 years of age, or older. (Please check the box to indicate that you are 18 years of age or older.)
People posting will agree to not post calendar items that violate the City guidelines. (Please check the box to indicate that you agree to the terms.)
Acceptable Events
Examples of events submitted to the City of Merced Community Events Calendar include:
A.) Events open to the public including community street fairs, local school events, summer camps, local sporting events, arts shows, plays, concerts and other community activities.
B.) Fundraiser events for non-profit agencies, schools, social service or other organizations.
C.) Informational seminars, clinics or meetings.
Prohibited Postings
Events submitted for posting containing any of the following shall not be approved for posting:
A.) Profane language or content.
B.) Events promoting a specific religious or political activity or belief.
C.) Sexual content or links to sexual content.
D.) Content promoting, fostering, or perpetuating discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation.
E.) Solicitations of commerce (i.e., yard sales, sidewalk sales, grand openings, anniversary sales, etc.)
F.) Conduct or encouragement of illegal activity.
G.) Information that may compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems.
H.) Content that violates a legal ownership interest of any other party.
Posting Procedure
Posts will be filled out by the applicant and submitted to the Calendar site. Usually within 48 hours (except weekends and holidays) the items will be reviewed to make sure they meet the City guidelines. If the item is acceptable, it will be posted on the calendar. If an item is rejected, City staff may not be able to contact the person submitting the item to explain why it was rejected.
Note: Anonymous and incomplete submissions will not be posted.
City Employees
Events posted by City employees will not be moderated, but posted directly to the calendar. City employees must adhere to the proposed guidelines for posting calendar items and only post acceptable events. They should refrain from posting prohibited events, or may find themselves subject to disciplinary action.
Permits
The City of Merced does not assume responsibility for the events posted on the Community Calendar. All necessary permitting, reservations, road closures, security requirements and safety resources are the responsibility of the event organizers, regardless of who has posted the event. Event organizers should contact the City’s Development Services Department at 209-385-6858 for more information on what may be required for their event. If required permits or reservations are not obtained in a timely manner, a calendar item may be removed at the City’s discretion.
