This Thursday is our zoom presentation for the month of March. Our speaker will be Katerina Friesen who is the program manager of The Insight Garden Program. This innovative program offers hands-on gardening for inmates within the walls of our local prisons. An accompanying curriculum gives this the potential to help participants to reconnect to self, to community, and to the natural world. During the the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic we have all relearned our need to be “in nature” and the renewing and regenerative effect that it can have. We can easily project how impactful the opportunity to be outdoors working the earth, growing food and flowers, might be for those who are incarcerated.
Some of the comments from inmates in the Insight Garden Program are . . .
. . . It helps me to slow down and center myself.
. . . Growing things in the garden makes me ask, what should I grow with my life.
. . . It gives me a sense of connection and increases my desire to be part of something larger.
. . . When I return to my family I want to share my new sense of connection to nature with my son.
. . . It has restored me back to who I am, grounded me, taught me how I can be who I was meant to be.
Join us this Thursday, March 18th, at 7:00 PM. to learn more about this impactful outreach.
